After a series of delays and pushbacks, one could easily make the argument that this latest announcement of the new release date for Digimon Survive should be taken with 10 grains of salt. I know that’s how I felt when news broke that gamers can expect the game to come out in late 2022, but somehow, I think this one may just be for real. Some of you may remember hearing about this game all the way back in 2018 when the world was a much different place. It was then that gamers were looking forward to a 2019 release of Digimon Survive, but fate had other plans.
After the 2019 release didn’t happen, the date was moved to 2020, which we all know was the year of letdowns and disappointments on every level. With 2020 being a wash for everyone, including game developers who had big plans set for that year, Bandai once again announced another delay, only this time it would be until 2021. And here we are. We’re currently in Q4 of 2021 and still have yet to see Digimon Survive be released.
Just a few months ago, Bandai let it be known that Digimon Survive wouldn’t be released until 2022. Like I said, given the number of times that it’s been delayed and the uncertainty of what other surprises may be lurking in 2022, it’s best to be cautiously optimistic about whether or not they will be able to stick to this timeframe. Some of you have probably seen this already, but here’s a little reminder of what we have to look forward to when the day does come for Digimon Survive to be released.
After 2 years, you can only watch that trailer so many times. However, I am grateful that we have some gameplay teasers as well, which shows us how and why Digimon Survive will be a different experience than what long-time Digimon players are used to.
Despite these delays and the potential for more if things don’t go as planned, fans are still just as excited for this game as they were when it was first announced back in 2018. That’s passion and loyalty for you. Hopefully, Bandai appreciates the continued support and loyalty that they’re getting from fans enough to put out some kind of special offer with the game in order to make up for all the delays. I don’t know, I think that’s something I would press for if I was on the inside.
Digimon Survive will be playable on PlayStation, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows The game is now set to release in Q3 of 2022, so think around July or September at the latest. It would be good if they pressed for an ASAP Q3 release in July, but somehow I think August is more realistic. If you want more info on this, you can check out the official website. It’s a little dated in my opinion (still showing a 2021 release), but informative nonetheless.
In the meantime, it’s probably best for all Digimon fans to turn back the clock and play some of the older games. Speaking of which, if you’re still down with the original TCG, be sure to grab a playmat that has a Digimon playzone upgrade included on it. You can refer back to the Digimon Playzone upgrade blog that was posted earlier this year for info on that. It’s a good read for anyone who’s interested.
