An uncut Sheet of Rare Pokémon Cards is up for auction

We usually talk about the auctions and sales of rare cards/collectibles after they’ve been sold. This time, we’re going to talk a little about a rare Pokémon gem that’s up for auction right now, as we speak. The ‘gem’ is a super rare sheet of uncut Pokémon cards that’s made up of all

1st edition shadowless cards dating all the way back to 1999. So, you can imagine just how much a passionate collector will bid for something like this.

Goldin Auctions put the sheet on the virtual block last week and as of today, February 15th, there have been a total of six bids. According to Goldin Auctions, the sheet features all 16 holographic cards from the original 1999 Base Set. Here’s the description that’s posted with the actual listing:

“This magnificent uncut sheet boasts many of the most popular Pokemon in the Base release, including two spectacular Charizard cards! Included on the sheet are #1 Alakazam (2 cards), #2 Blastoise (2 cards), #3 Chansey (3 cards), #4 Charizard (2 cards), #5 Clefairy (2 cards), #6 Gyarados (10 cards), #7 Hitmonchan (10 cards), #8 Machamp (32 cards), #9 Magneton (2 cards), #10 Mewtwo (10 cards), #11 Nidoking (2 cards), #12 Ninetales (10 cards), #13 Poliwrath (2 cards), #14 Raichu (3 cards), #15 Venusaur (3 cards), and #16 Zapdos (3 cards).”

You can visit the official listing on Goldin’s site if you want a closer look at each card featured.

It’s been reported that the sheet once hung in the office of the Wizard of the Coast’s CEO. Pretty funny, huh? Goldin describes the sheet as being in ‘good’ condition, so at least it was taken care of, somewhat.  It’s not perfect/pristine by any means, but at least it’s all in one piece…literally. The only noticeable wear is just some light scuffing and fading here and there, but for the most part, I think it’s amazing that the entire sheet is in as good a condition as it is. My only hope is that whoever wins it doesn’t attempt to cut it.

As I said in the beginning, the sheet was put up for auction last week and has gotten some nice bids since. At present, the bid is up to $37,000 and it’s continuing to grow each day. The sale is currently live on Goldin Auctions’ site and will remain so until Wednesday, February 23rd. That gives you just under a week to place your bid and snag the sheet out from under the other hungry TCG collectors out there. I don’t know about you, but I’m saving my bidding cash for something rarer to come along…

KIDDING!

Seriously, if I had the coin to spend on a super rare piece like this, I would jump at the opportunity to put my bid in. But, for now, I’ll just have to live through those who do. With that said, if anyone out there reading this does plan on bidding, I wish you the best of luck. When the hammer comes down on the auction, I’ll return here with a little update to let everyone know what the sheet sold for.

In the meantime, you can head over to Goldin Auctions’ site and see the actual listing in its entirety. There, you’ll find more info about the sheet itself, along with some more photos, and even a list of bids (and amounts) that have been placed for it. It’s pretty cool to watch that number get bigger with each passing day. We’ll see just how high it goes between now and the 23rd.

Until we meet again,

Vince The Prince
