Not too long ago, I posted a blog that highlighted our top-selling wargaming mats. That post sparked an idea that I thought would be pretty cool. I’ve sort of turned that post inside out, so to speak, to give you a better look at some of the best games for our wargaming mats. Some of these games may look familiar, especially if you’ve read our previous wargaming posts, but this time we’re going just a step further.

In what follows, I’ll give you a brief highlight of each game along with a list of playmats that best serve as the backdrop and terrain for these miniature games.

Ready to put the pedal to the metal? Car Wars introduces you to a new world of vehicular combat, as it merges a futuristic style with good old-fashioned four-wheel mayhem. Think Mad Max meets Speed Racer. The game allows you to build your cards from the ground up and fit it with all the weaponry/armory you need to survive the threats that are stalking the open road. And by that, I mean the other player’s cars, of course. Yes, you can expect a lot of crashes, rollovers and sabotage along the way.

Each conflict that you survive earns you more abilities and money to buy more advanced cars, trucks and combat gear. From flamethrowers to machine guns to laser cannons and a lot more, this game literally puts you in the driver seat and takes you for a ride that you’ll never forget. Buckle up!

Once the two armies collide, you’ll experience non-stop combat that will test your strength, stamina and tactfulness. I figured if we began with Star Wars, we should conclude with it as well to bring this blog full-circle, so to speak. You might have seen Star Wars Armada mentioned in previous posts, but we never bothered to really dive in and highlight what it’s all about. No doubt, there are some of you who have already played Armada (in which case you should let me know which playmat design you prefer), but for those who haven’t, this game should definitely be on your list as well!

Much like X-Wing, Star Wars Armada is a starship dogfight game that puts you in the center of a massive battle between the Imperial Navy and the Rebel Alliance. Using your strategy and tactical skills, it’s up to you to assemble/lead your fleet of Star Destroyers, TIE fighters, Nebulon Frigates, and X-Wings to victory.
