Star Wars: The High Republic has finally been revealed

Hey, everyone! It appears that the force (and the fourth) is calling out to us yet again! On January 4th, a launch trailer was released for the highly anticipated upcoming adventure titled, Star Wars: The High Republic! And with the popular Disney+ series, The Mandalorian, concluding just a few weeks ago, the timing of the release of this newest Star Wars story/series is impeccable!

According to LucasFilm Creative Director Michael Siglain, this project has been a long time coming and was finally given the go-ahead once the last chapter of the sequel trilogy, The Rise of Skywalker, was concluded! In fact, the series was originally set to be released back in August of 2020, but was delayed. And now that the Skywalker story has come full circle, and there’s nowhere else to go, but back to the very, very beginning!

What is Star Wars: The High Republic?

For those of you who don’t know, Star Wars: The High Republic will present audiences with a new story told through a series of books, magazines and comics. This story is set to take place long before (about 200 years) the events of the Skywalker Saga and will feature a host of new and old (depending on your perception) creatures and characters, along with a few iconic heroes sprinkled in here and there as well. Remember, Yoda is...old, and at the youthful age of 700, Yoda was apparently a Jedi master at his peak.

This is shown in the series’ first chapter (or Phase I), which depicts a younger Yoda, along with a team of other Jedi tasked with the defense of what was once a pure Republic. I don’t want to spoil anything here, so let me just say: this series gives us a story that sets up the entire blueprint for the events that would take place hundreds of years later!

So far, there are three confirmed chapters/phases set to be released throughout the year. These Phases are titled as follows:

  • Phase I: Light of the Jedi
  • Phase II: Quest of the Jedi
  • Phase III: Trials of the Jedi

  • Again, each phase will be released in the form of books, magazines and comics, which bodes well for the various writers (who have authored Star Wars books in the past) and publishers connected to the project. This includes Marvel Comics as well, which has been publishing Star Wars stories since the saga began back in 1977. Since January 5th, there have been four stories (both comics and books) released and according to StarWars.com, we can expect more in the coming months.

With all things considered and confirmed so far, it’s safe to say that Star Wars: The High Republic will truly be our very first step into a much larger and older world! And I for one, can’t wait to see where it takes us!

May the force be with you!
