Pokémon has a new open-world game coming in 2022

Well, here we are again, talking about one of my kinds of games. I’ve always thought that Pokémon games were somewhat open-world, but after playing other open-world games, the Pokémon settings seem so small and restrictive. However, that’s all about to change. It appears that the Pokémon open-world is about to get bigger and more spread out with Pokémon Legends Arceus!

The announcement of this newest game (and others) came out over the weekend of February 27th, which marked the 25th Anniversary of Pokémon. Click here to watch the reveal trailer. Although 2022 seems like a long way off, we do have some details about what can be expected from Arceus. I emphasize ‘some’ because what we know so far is just enough to pique our interest, but not enough to tell us all that we want to know at this early stage, which is expected.

You probably know that drill by now, but if you’re new here, this is how it works: I’m just going to cover the basics of what we know and what’s been confirmed so far. I don’t like getting too caught up in conjecture. I like sticking to the concrete facts that have been revealed and confirmed so far. However, that doesn’t mean that I don’t want to hear your thoughts and expectations for this game. In fact, if you have anything to say about this new game, be sure to leave those in the comments below once you’re finished reading through this post.

With that said, let’s dive in!

As I said earlier, Pokémon Legends Arceus will be an open-world game that presents players with a bigger setting/map. That setting will be the Sinnoh Region, which is also where other Pokémon games, such as Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl take place. However, the Sinnoh Region in Arceus will be a bit different, since it is a prequel game. That means you will be exploring the region in an earlier period, which is pretty cool.

Also, you won’t be exploring the region on your own, as the game will allow you to choose between Rowlett, Cyndaquil, or Oshawott as your starter/poke-partner. Together, you will search, study and survey the land with the goal of creating Sinnoh’s first Pokédex. To me, this is a sign that the region/open-world will be pretty vast and bigger than what we’re used to in Pokémon games. You will also uncover clues and solve the mystery of the legendary, god-like monster that is known as...Arceus.

I’ve even heard that catching Pokémon will be a bit different. For example, there is a new feature that allows you to be more stealthy and sneak up on Pokémon instead of just the usual routine of simply throwing the Pokeball first. The game wants you to get closer and be more strategically minded with your catches. As far as battles are concerned, nothing has really been confirmed yet, although there have been many reports/opinions of how they will work. We’ll keep an eye on this aspect of the game as the weeks and months go on.

Pokémon Legends Arceus will be released sometime in early 2022 on Nintendo Switch and just like all of the other passionate Pokémon fans out there, I’ll be counting the days, even though there isn’t an exact date yet. Let’s just say that I’m hoping 2021 goes by in a blink of an eye, even though we’re only a few months into the year. At least we have something to look forward to.

For more info and better visuals, you can visit the game’s official page. Again, if you have or find any more details about Pokémon Legends Arceus, be sure to leave them in the comments. I’ll have my radar up as well!

Until we meet again,
