MTG Arena is now available for download on Android and iOS
If you didn’t know it already, Magic The Gathering Arena was made available on both Android and iOS platforms on March 25th! I know that we have a pretty passionate audience here at Inked Gaming, and many of you have probably already downloaded it on your mobile devices. But, I thought that no harm could come from re-visiting this latest update, especially for those who may have been preoccupied with other things when the news broke. I know I was!
Don’t worry, I’ll keep this brief!
For starters, MTG Arena has actually been in a beta stage on Android (only Android) since January 2021. Of course, PC has been ruling the realm, so to speak, while the mobile version was still being tested by users for the experience. Well, it appears that WOTC is ready to make a jump on mobile, as MTG Arena will now be available for both Android and iOS users. So, something must have gone right or we would be looking at a delayed-release right about now.
With that said, mobile MTG Arena will probably see a lot of use, especially for those who need something to do when they’re away from the desktops. In fact, it’s been established that the mobile version is already pretty similar to PC when it comes to cross-play. That means players are able to access and use their Wizard accounts to find their digital decks/collections. And if you’re needing a little practice before going head to head with real players, you can train and test your skills against AI competitors as well. Not bad.
But, with smaller screens and less playability of certain modes, it’s fair to assume that MTG Arena mobile will be 2nd to the PC version for a lot of players. I’m not downgrading mobile here, I’m saying what I think most are probably thinking at this point. For me, mobile gaming has always been more about convenience rather than experience. And I think that’s what this latest mobile version of the game will prove as time goes on. But, who knows. Maybe a majority of mobile gamers will end up preferring mobile over PC. Stranger things have happened, but that’s for another post.
You can download MTG Arena from the Google Play Store right here or download it from The App Store here!
Have you downloaded and played MTG Arena on mobile yet? If so, what did you think? Is it just as fun on your phone/tablet as it is on PC? Tell me everything about your experience with it in the comments below! Thanks!
Until we meet again,
Vince The Prince
