Mobile Phone Game Review: Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells

Hey, everyone! I know it’s been a minute since my last review, but I’m back with you once again with yet another fun mobile game that I think you’re going to enjoy hearing about, especially all the aspiring witches and wizards out there! That’s right, this time I’ve got a game that brings us back to the school and story that we’ve all adored for so many years. It’s called Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells!

Since this is my first review in a while, I wanted to make it special with a game that so many have come to enjoy. Chances are that you may have played this game already, but if not, you’re definitely in for a treat!

So, without further ado, let’s get started with what this game is all about, where you can find it, and what makes it so magical to so many!

Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells

What is it?

Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells is a puzzle game (as you may have guessed by now) from Zynga that is available on both iOS and Google/Android platforms. The game itself challenges players to prove their matching (Match-3) and puzzle-solving abilities by overcoming different levels. Each level presents its own specific Match-3 puzzle/challenge, coupled with iconic moments that come straight from the film series. With every level that’s successfully accomplished, you can unlock new spells, magical powers, and creatures that can be quite useful during more difficult levels.

You’ll see Hogwarts and its characters in a much different way as you progress and reach higher levels. Heck, you’ll find out what it’s like to become a witch/wizard yourself once you’ve used your upgrade abilities and collected a few magical creatures along the way. So, if you’ve been looking for a game that’s filled with magic, brain-teasing puzzles, and characters from your favorite book/film series, this is it! Wingardium Leviosa!

What did you think?

I’ll admit that at first, I was a little hesitant to download it because I thought it was going to be a little too simple, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing if you’re just looking to have some fun or pass the time. But, I’ll say, things can get pretty challenging as the game progresses. At least they did for me anyway. I actually love the fact that it allows you to choose your own house and wand at the beginning of the game. I’m actually more partial to the ash wand myself. You can also customize your wizard as well, which is always fun to do.

This game has an excellent look and feel to it as well. The design and interface are quite impressive, especially with so many vibrant colors all over the place. You find anything dull or muted anywhere. It actually kind of reminds me of candy crush, just with a Harry Potter twist. There are also live events that are a blast to participate in with other players.

Finally, I’ve heard that many people have experienced frequent crashes with the game, but I have yet to experience that myself...knock on wood. Crashes have become quite frequent for mobile games, as you well know, but are sort of par for the course when they’ve been developed by smaller companies. However, I do know how annoying those crashes can be, so just take that into consideration before downloading. This doesn’t change my outlook on the gameplay itself though.

Would you recommend this game?

Without a moment of hesitation! Definitely yes! Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells is entertaining and challenging, which is what I look for in every game, but it also reminds me of why I loved the books and movies so much. When I was in elementary school, Harry Potter was a big thing for all of us, especially when the movie came out. Substitute teachers would bring it in for us to watch, and we would even gather around to watch it in the lunchroom...after school, of course. For some reason, this game brings me back to those days. You’ll see what I mean once you’ve tried it for yourself.

Thanks for joining me once again in another fun review post. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. If you’ve played this game already, please leave me your own little review in the comments below. If not and you wish to know more about it, you can leave me questions in the comments section as well, or you can visit Zynga’s official site that I’ve linked here
