Mobile Phone Game Review: Alto's Odyssey

What’s up, everyone! Thanks for joining me in another awesome mobile phone review! For this post, I have a game that’s been described as stunningly beautiful. Dramatic and driving. And calmingly meditative. Now, I don’t know about you, but those are all things that I can use right now, especially in my games. The producer is Noodlecake Studios Inc., and the game is... Alto’s Odyssey!

In what follows, we’ll take a closer look into the world of Alto’s Odyssey and the dazzling, haunting experience that it presents to every player. If you’re a lover of fast-paced, endless runner games that feels smooth and looks great, then this game should be right down your alley!

So, let’s get movin’!

Alto's Odyssey

What is it?

Released by Noodlecake Studios Inc.back in 2018, Alto’s Odyssey is an endless runner (or boarding) adventure game that was actually named Game of the Year by Apple TV. With a colorful, majestic desert setting as your backdrop, you will surf the steep, rolling dunes of soft sand, while earning points along the way. Obviously, your adventure will have you dodging and leaping over various obstacles here and there, but you’ll see that there’s no obstacle too great for you to overcome. Odyssey is actually a sequel to Noodlecake’s previous game: Alto’s Adventure, which takes place on snowy slopes. Alto’s Odyssey presents the same idea, abilities, and goals, just in a hotter setting, with sand instead of snow.Using different gear and a host of acrobatic moves, Alto’s Odyssey gives you all the tools and skills needed to make your high-flying adventure that much more enjoyable. Equipped with a sandboard and wingsuit, the game allows you to glide, backflip, grind and wallride your way through the infinite desert landscape. Like many other runner games, you’ll gain points judging by distance, trick combos and coins picked up along the way. Alto’s Odyssey is available on both iOS and Android platforms.

What did you think?

After a countless number of hours and meters, I thought this game was every bit of amazing! I actually found myself becoming slightly addicted to it, which as I’ve said in the past, is a rare quality that only few games can achieve, at least with the type of player that I am. I look for games that grab you and hold your attention, enough to make you forget about the clock or the craziness going on around you. And that’s just what Alto’s Odyssey delivers, every time. I’m a big fan of mobile runner games, but this game goes beyond the average Temple Run or Subway Surfer. It helps that the graphics are great and the game gives you a feeling of easy, total control over your character as well.

Besides how it looks and feels, I like how Alto’s Odyssey pays close attention to the little details, including how the desert setting goes from day to night. I also enjoyed playing as some of the different characters, all of which have their own story and background. My favorite character to play has to be Felipe. There’s just something about sandboarding and doing backflips as a llama, you know? Plus, Felipe has a special double-jump ability. Additionally, I like the fact that the game offers you the chance to grow your skills in their Zen mode, which is sort of a free-roam mode for practicing. All things considered, I really, really enjoyed playing this game!

Would you recommend this game?

Simply put, HECK YES! This game is a visual pleasure that has a great design, smooth mechanics and a gameplay that’s both exciting and stimulating at the same time. Players often worry that games like these can get too repetitive and quickly devolve into boring after a while, but somehow this game makes it so every run is different from your last. Trust me, you won’t get bored with this game. I would highly recommend Alto’s Odyssey to anyone looking for a new endless running/boarding adventure!

Thanks again for tuning in to this newest mobile phone game review. If you’ve played Alto’s Odyssey before, please let me know what you thought of it in the comments section. Also, have you played Alto’s Adventure? If so, I’d like to hear your take on that game as well, especially since I never actually played that one myself.

I have some pretty cool games lined up for this series and I hope that you will join me again! So, be sure to check our blog page every now and then for new mobile game reviews!

Until we meet again,
