Marvel's New Midnight Suns RPG

It’s been a while since we’ve talked about Marvel in our blog. I think we covered a couple of mobile games, a Warhammer comic crossover, and an Avenger’s DLC way back. Marvel’s always got something going down that’s newsworthy, but recently, we’ve been pretty well-occupied by more pressing topics in the gaming world.

Marvel was recently able to jump to the top of my list of awesome things to write about when they announced their latest RPG. It’s called Midnight Suns. Have you heard of it? If not, I suggest you keep on reading and be sure to check out the links that drop in along the way.

Midnight Suns is set to be a tactics-based RPG that will include deck-building mechanics, teamwork, team building, and strategic, turn-based combat.

After all the rumors, stories, and buildup surrounding Marvel’s newest project, fans were able to get their first glimpse at Midnight Suns in action via an announcement trailer that was released back in late August. In that trailer, we were given a little taste of what Midnight Suns has to offer and what kind of heroes we can expect to see in it. Rather than just tell you about it, I think it would be better if you just watched it yourself. You can do so by clicking below.

Midnight Suns Announcement Trailer

Some stories/blogs are better told visually, especially when there are such cool videos and trailers connected to them. By teaming up with Firaxis Games (the game developer), Marvel has introduced us to a new game that reintroduces a team of heroes that go back to the 1990s. Yes, if you’re old enough to remember, the Midnight Sons (different spelling) are/were a crew that consisted of heroes/characters like Ghost Rider, Blade, and Doctor Strange. They were supposed to be a darker, more brutal team than the Avengers. But, as you can see in the trailer, Marvel is throwing their best characters into the Midnight Suns mix now.

Let’s be honest, heroes like Iron Man, Captain America, Wolverine are huge, and given the success that Marvel has had with all of those characters over the years, adding them to this new team of Midnight Suns was a no-brainer. It was the chance to bring an original idea back to life, with more popular characters that fans can’t play a Marvel game without. Plus, you have to admit, they look pretty cool in black and gold, especially Iron Man.

Looks aside, I think that Midnight Suns has the potential to be just as big as the old Marvel Alliance games that we enjoyed so much in the past. At least, that’s the feeling I got when I saw the new extended gameplay trailer(s) that came out on September 1st. Here it is if you didn’t get to see it yet.

Midnight Suns Gameplay

Even more recently, Marvel decided to give us a closer look at the actual gameplay itself and what the combat mechanics between characters will look and feel like in-game. That demo was streamed during a live showcase presentation, which was made available on September 7th. You can watch that full presentation by clicking below.

I think watching Wolverine and Sabretooth go head to head once again was my favorite part.

So, when and where can we expect to play Midnight Suns? Well, it looks like we’ll have to wait until March 2022 for the fun to begin. The game itself will be playable across a host of platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Let me know what your thoughts are on Midnight Suns and if you like what you’ve seen so far from the trailers and gameplay presentations.

Until we meet again,
