Hello all! It’s time for yet another featured artist interview! Please help me welcome Rogier van de Beek. Rogier is a freelance artist from the Netherlands who has been in the games industry for many years. He’s done character art for Pathfinder, Starfinder and is also a concept artist for SEGA. Along with being an amazing artist, Rogier also co-own a Game studio named Card Game tokens. He also has a dog! How much better can this already fantastic artist get?… you’ll just have to read the interview to find out.
What kind of art do you enjoy doing the most (digital, traditional, paint)?
I mostly paint digitally. I do enjoy sketching in my sketchbook, but if I look at the amount of hours spent.
Digital is definitely on #1.
You’re a new addition to the crayon box... What color would you be?
Orange! Google ‘Orange Dutch’ and you’ll know why! 😊
What inspires you?
Life! I’m unfortunately not easily inspired by a specific thing. Usually these things come to my mind when i'm walking my dog, or am on vacation. When I long to work or paint, is when it hits me usually. 😄
What’s your favorite song to jam out to?
Probably all Blink 182 songs.
If your style was edible what would it be, and why?
Tiramisu... Because it’s kind of dark... it's tasty, and it has alcohol in it... Just sounds like a match.
You’ve been given an elephant. You can’t give it away or sell it. What would you do with the elephant?
Long walks on the beach and romantic dinners.
What are some hobbies you do when you’re not doing art?
Going out for long hikes and walks. Also, I have an aquarium with Discus Fish.
Of course, like everyone else I love to travel the world when I can. Having visited the US and Asia a couple of times! 😊
What superpower would you have, and why?
Time freeze... so I don’t have to worry if I’ll make the deadline. 😄
How do you know when your art is finished (if ever)?
Usually, I hold myself to a certain time. For longer pieces or things without a clear budget – Just as long as I think it needs.
Name three artists you’d like to be compared to.
I would love it if everyone is just seen as the individual artist that they are. Styles, inspirations and paths in life will form an artist and is always different for everyone. Find your own way and try to do what you love!
