Magic: Legends A First Look

Last week we discussed some awesome gaming gear that we have on our site – our stitched edge mousepads – and that got me thinking of new PC games coming out in 2020 that I’m hyped about. After spending a few minutes digging around, I came to this on Twitter:

Immediately, I checked a few things off my list that I’ve on the lookout for:

MMO? Check!

Action RPG? Check! (I still don’t know how you do an action RPG like Diablo while also being an MMO but I’m excited to see!)

Magic: The Gathering game that isn’t just a card game? Check!

Something I can use to introduce my friends to the greatest universe (Magic) and potentially convert them into card players later? Check! Check! Check!

A few quick hits about Magic: Legends

  • It will be a multiplayer game, where working with your allies to create powerful combos will yield better rewards for winning battles and destroying monsters.
  • Abilities will work a little differently. You will build a “deck” of abilities. While battling, abilities will show up randomly from your deck and you can use them once. Once used, the ability goes to the bottom of your deck. This simulates the deckbuilding and card drawing aspects from the official Magic: The Gathering card game.
  • Magic: Legends will be available for PC in 2020, and will be available for Xbox One and PS4 in 2021.
  • Two classes have been announced so far. The Mind Mage and the Geomancer. It looks like the Mind mage will be of “blue” origin from the card game and the Geomancer will be of “red” origin.
  • You choose between five different classes at the start of the game. You are able to swap between all five classes throughout the game – making It so you don’t have to create a new character when you want to try out a new class.
  • You can sign up for beta here (not live yet).
  • It was announced as an ARPG from the creators of Neverwinter.
  • As of writing this, the two planes Shiv and Benalia have been announced as places you will explore in the game’s story mode. Shiv and Benalia are both from the plane “Dominaria.”

The crafty Mind Mage!

The powerful Geomancer!
