It appears that the force is still with us because just this week we were given a gift from a galaxy far, far away! The Star Wars: Hunters trailer dropped on September 14th and it looks more awesome than it sounds!
Now, just so you know, the trailer is strictly cinematic and might not quite match what the actual gameplay looks like. However, there was a gameplay video released on the same day that gives us a better idea of the look and feel of the game. And that looks pretty awesome too. I’ll leave the links to the trailer and gameplay demo below, but first, let’s cover a little bit of the background.
Star Wars: Hunters was first announced to fans earlier this year via a Nintendo Direct event. With that announcement, came a little teaser just to get us warmed up and looking forward to the end of the year. Now, while the initial announcement said that the release would be happening this year (2021), the most recent trailer has sent a clear message that things have been pushed a bit. Yes, that does mean that we’re looking at a 2022 official release date. When in 2022 has yet to be revealed.
Zynga is the game developer behind this new Star Wars title, and based on what we’ve been shown so far, it looks like they’ve done an exceptional job with bringing this new competitive combat adventure to life.
So, what is Star Wars: Hunters? When is it set? What platforms will it be available on? These are all good questions, which will be answered after we’ve watched the official trailer. Check it out.
In that trailer, we saw Jawas, Stormtroopers, a Mandalorian, a Sith warrior, and a Wookie battling it out in an arena. Those and the words: Welcome to the Arena. So, what can we take away from what was revealed in that short 120 seconds? Well, we can confirm that Hunters takes place sometime after the Empire’s defeat, so post-Return of the Jedi, and that it will be one of those arena-based combat games that we enjoy so much.
That’s what was in the trailer. Now, talk about what wasn’t in the trailer. According to Zynga, and other sources, Hunters will be a free-to-play multiplayer mobile game available on iOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch. Additionally, we can also confirm that the gameplay/arena itself is set on the planet Vespaara, which is where teams of hunters gather from far and wide to duke it out in combat against other teams.
That’s pretty much all the info we know about Star Wars Hunters so far, but I’m betting that more details and trailers will be coming out as we approach the planet 2022. In the meantime, let me know what you think of Star Wars: Hunters and if you’re as excited about it as I am.
