Legends of Runeterra's Empires of the Ascended expansion release

March 3rd may have seemed like an ordinary day to most. But, for those who have been playing Legends of Runterra and following the news surrounding the game, March 3rd marked the release of the game’s newest expansion, titled: Empires of the Ascended. Most of you are probably well aware of this latest news by now. However, if you’ve been playing Legends of Runeterra and didn’t know about this latest expansion, consider this your wake-up call.

In this post, I’m going to give you some more info about the expansion and what’s been revealed so far, as of March 3rd. The details are still pretty fresh at this moment, so if you have any additional info or details about the expansion, be sure to leave them for me and your fellow readers in the comments at the bottom.

Let’s jump into it.

Empires of the Ascended brings players to the desert region of Shurima and even includes a host of new cards (110 to be exact), mechanics, 9 championships, 3 keywords and Labs. The backstory behind Shurima and how it was created is quite an intriguing one. According to legend, Shurima was a prosperous civilization at one point, after being developed by Ascended God-Warriors. The good times didn’t last though, as its leader took the country down the wrong path, which eventually led to its downfall. Since then, Shurima has become nothing more than a desert landscape/region that’s filled with the faded memories of what was once a thriving empire.

As I’m writing this, the Azir Emperor Deck has been released, which includes cards like Azir, Emperor’s Prosperity, Eternal Gladiator, General’s Palace, Emperor’s Guard, Golden Herald, Crumbling Sands, Ascended’s Call, Shimmering Mirage, and Sandstorm. You can get in-depth details about this Emperor Deck and the power of Azir by clicking here. I was going to give you a brief breakdown of each card, but I thought it would be better if you go right to the source and see them for yourself.

Along with the 110 new cards that have been added to the game, there are three new keywords as well. Those keywords are: Countdown, Predict, and Reputation. We’ll start with Countdown, which is kind of like a timer that activates cards and landmarks after a certain amount of rounds have been completed. Predict offers players the opportunity to pick one card out of three in their deck, reshuffle and put one of those cards at the top of their deck. Reputation activates if a player's allies have struck for 5 or more damage at least 4 times during a game. Again, you can get more information about these three keywords from the official Runeterra site, which I’ve attached and linked right here.

This is an exciting time for Legend of Runeterra and its players! Empire of the Ascended is the biggest expansion the game has had since the Call of the Mountain update that was released back in August of 2020. After seven months, gamers have finally been given some fresh content with an update that should really set the precedent for more that may come down the line.

Again, if you have any questions or info about the Empire of the Ascended expansion, please make sure to leave them in the comments below. Thanks!

Until we meet again,
