Post Malone pays $2 million for The One Ring!

A story this big is always Weekly Wave worthy, so we had to toss it into this week’s letter. This news broke last week, and we were waiting to confirm all the details. You may remember that shortly after we posted our blog about the quest for the elusive One Ring, it was discovered by a collector who wasn’t in a huge rush to sell.

Well, that collector’s patience has paid off, and the card is now the possession of a renowned collector who is known for spending a pretty penny on rare MTG treasures. After making a huge splash with the purchase of a $800K Black Lotus, Post Malone is back in the headlines, this time for paying the card’s lucky finder, Brook Trafton, $2,000,000 in exchange for The One Ring. 

Trafton, a retail worker from Toronto, agreed to sell the card to Posty after a casual meeting with the rap star. From there, Trafton took on a lawyer who worked with Post Malone’s legal team to hammer out the details of the exchange. Given its value, rarity, and perfect condition (Mint), Posty was more than happy to pay the $2,000,000. 

It’s good to see that this one-of-a-kind MTG treasure has been found and now has a home with a collector who is sure to treat it as good as gold. 

Score Pokémon Prize Packs from your game store!

Let’s be honest, in-store events are great! There’s nothing like swinging by your local game shop and having fun with friends and fellow Trainers, especially when there are exclusive Prize Packs to be had. Yep, Pokémon recently announced that it will be giving Trainers the opportunity to earn Series Three Prize Packs that can be obtained by participating in in-store events.

Of course, all of this is happening during the 2023 World Championships tournament, so everyone can get in on the action. This Prize Pack promo will be available to Trainers at their local, participating store locations, so if yours is around the corner, you should head over and see what’s up. Our Kraken Cards storefront will be participating in this Series Three promo as well. So, if you’re in downtown Corvallis, Oregon, stop in and have some fun!

Those who do participate will have a shot at snagging a Prize Pack, each including six cards from a pool of 200 legal ones in Standard Format. These cards will also have a special logo symbolizing the Play! Pokémon Promo.

This in-store event will begin on August 14 at select locations and will only run for a limited time. There are a lot of Series Three Prize Packs to be had, so you should try to participate in as many of these events as you can. Be sure to check out Pokémon’s official site for more info and details about the cards you can expect to find in these packs!
