The Weekly Wave

Welcome back to the Weekly Wave! Let’s see what news, updates, and announcements have risen to the surface this week!

Genshin Impact’s first TCG tournament is live!

3 years after its official release, this popular open-world RPG has announced that they are holding an international tournament for the game’s TCG game mode, Genius Invokation! This TCG tournament is titled Astra Carnival: The Prince Cup, and will take place on an international level. That means players from all over the world will have the opportunity to compete and enter the $270,000 prize pool!

Genshin Impact Tournament

According to the game’s developer, this international tournament will feature both regional and cross-regional events that are set to take place from June all the way to the end of the year in December. The regional events are set to go down in a number of different places spread across the map. Those regions include:

  • Korea
  • Europe
  • North America
  • Japan
  • Latin America
  • SEA/Hong Kong/Macau/Taiwan
  •

Those who make it to the quarterfinals will be invited to participate in live, on-site events that will be streamed on AstraCarnival’s Twitter, Youtube, Twitch, and TikTok platforms. From there, Genshin Impact will then host three international Invitationals for the most skilled community and regional players. These invitational tournament events will be in an exhibition format and will also be streamed for audiences all over the world.

If you would rather compete than watch and take your slice of that $270,000 pie, feel free to visit Genshin Impact’s site. There you will find more info about the regional tournaments, including how to register and a full breakdown of the scheduled events and prize payouts for those who place!

    Good luck!

Enjoy fun Pride Month events in Overwatch 2 this June!

If you pop into Overwatch 2 at any point in June, you’ll find a host of new features and festivities to celebrate Pride Month! This is the first time that Blizzard, the game’s developer, has celebrated Pride Month in Overwatch 2, and they’re sure it’s going to be a super fun time for all players. These festivities come in the form of some new features/updates that will introduce some cool changes to locations across the game’s map.

Those who drop in on June 1st will notice that some areas, specifically Midtown and Watchpoint: Gibraltar, will look slightly different. Midtown, for example, will appear as a post Pride parade, with confetti and other celebratory props filling the streets. Let’s just say it will look like you just missed one heck of a party.

    Overwatch 2 Pride Event

Overwatch 2 will also introduce some other slight, but significant, changes that will remain in the game permanently. This includes icons that will give players the freedom to express their individual identities during games.

The ability to express yourself and showcase your identity in-game is something that Blizzard really wanted to focus on, which is why these name cards will be permanent additions to the game. Blizzard has also announced that they plan to take proceeds gathered from their pride collection over the next month and donate it to the National Center for Transgender Equality.

Ever since it was first released, the Overwatch series has served as a virtual playground for players to escape and explore. Thanks to these special Pride festivities and additions, they have made it a fun, freeing, inclusive world for everyone!
