The Weekly Wave

Welcome back to the Weekly Wave! Let’s see what news, updates, and announcements have risen to the surface this week!

Have you seen Pokémon’s Snorlax Plush Bed?

You may remember that we covered Pokémon Sleep in one of our previous Weekly Waves not too long ago, and we thought this fun story would be a nice follow-up. With Sleep expected to release this summer, Premium Bandai is right on time with their massive Snorlax Plush bed that is set to launch in Japan. This plush is basically a giant cushion, but at 60 × 50 inches, you may as well call it a bed…and it looks super comfy.

Check this out:

Pokémon Snorlax Bed

You can’t have a Snorlax bed without the key instrument that’s designed to wake them up. That’s right, Bandai is also throwing in Poke Flute with every Snorlax bed, which is a nice touch. We don’t know about you, but we’re already looking forward to some fun afternoon naps. And if it’s been one of those days/weeks, it will probably take more than a flute to make us move.

Unfortunately, for those of us who live outside of Japan (particularly the U.S.), we’re going to have to wait a while for this plush bed to be sold in our regions. No times, dates, or details have been released on that yet, but hopefully, we’ll have a hint before 2023 comes to a close.

Even when/if they do become available in the U.S., some of us may have to stop and think twice about the price. Based on the price we’re seeing for Japanese customers, we can expect these Snorlax Plush beds to cost around $550 USD. The only thing we can say is that at least we’ll have time to save up for it…if nothing cooler comes along in the meantime.

Pre-ordering for the Snorlax Plush bed has already started, and it’s been announced that they will officially be released in July 2023. Again, pre-ordering and shipping are only available for Japanese customers. We’ll keep you updated on when international customers can place their orders.

Tyler the Great Warrior Yu-Gi-Oh! card is being auctioned this month!

Out of all the Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards ever printed, there is one that has only ever been printed once and is considered to be the rarest Yugi card in existence. Tyler the Great Warrior has been on the list of the rarest Yu-Gi-Oh! cards for almost 20 years, not just because it’s a one-of-one, but because of the amazing story behind it!

Does this ring a bell?

Tyler the Great Warrior

Tyler the Great Warrior was specially printed for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which had been looking to grant Tyler Gressle’s wish for a custom Yu-Gi-Oh! card that merged Yugi with Dragon Ball Z. At the time, Tyler was combating a rare form of liver cancer. So, Kazuki Takahashi, the series creator, flew Tyler out to New York for a meet, and together they created Tyler the Great Warrior based on Tyler’s favorite character and Kazuki’s sketches.

Just like a true warrior, Tyler overcame the illness and is living happily today. The card has been with Tyler since it was first printed in 2005, and no one has been able to touch it since. However, Tyler recently announced that he plans to put the card up for auction in April. As expected, this news has created quite a stir among avid collectors, who would like nothing better than to have this super rare piece of Yu-Gi-Oh! history in their possession.

According to Gressle, he felt it was time to finally part ways with the card, especially now that he is getting older and has plans to start his own family and business. Based on its rarity, history, and condition, this card can help lay the foundation for his future.

Since this is the first time that a one-off, single-printed Yu-Gi-Oh! Card has ever been publicly sold, putting it on the auction block is a tad tricky and will have to be handled in a certain way. There isn’t even a starting bid figure on the table yet. All we can tell you is that the card itself is in near-mint condition and has never been touched with a bare hand since it was sealed in its protective storage case.

You can place your bid via eBay starting on April 19th.
