The Weekly Wave
Welcome back to the Weekly Wave! Let’s see what news, updates, and announcements have risen to the surface this week!
Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG’s Duelist Nexus booster set is coming this summer!
When a game like Yu-Gi-Oh! reaches a milestone age, you can expect a lot of celebratory sets and featured festivities to help commemorate how far it’s come. In light of the game’s 25th Anniversary, Konami is coming out with all kinds of special Yugi sets in 2023, including a Duelist Nexus booster that is scheduled to release in just a few months.
The Duelist Nexus booster is a core set that will contain a variety of cards based on the monsters found in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s anime series and other popular sets. That means you can expect to see everything from the Crimson Dragon to the Infernoble Knights from Rise of the Duelist. This booster will also present us with new cards, themes, and 25 Quarter Century Secret Rare cards that represent 25 years of the game.
The whole set comes with 100 cards, which are made up of commons, Super Rares, Ultra Rares, and Secret Rares. Here’s how those cards are broken down:
- 50 commons
- 26 Super Rares
- 14 Ultra Rares
- 10 Secret Rares
The Duelist Nexus booster set will first be released in Japan on April 22, 2023. Those of us living in the U.S. will have to wait until July 28th for the official release, so be sure to add that date to your calendar as well. Again, it’s going to be a busy year for one of our favorite TCGs, but that’s just the way we like it. Click HERE to learn more about the Duelist Nexus booster.
Super Mario’s iconic boots have been brought to life!
We caught this story about a week ago and just had to put it in one of our Weekly Waves! As lifelong fans of the world’s coolest plumber, we couldn’t hold back our emotions when we found out that Mario’s classic boots were made into real shoes. The boots themselves were made by Red Wing Shoes in an effort to promote the Super Mario Bros. movie. They actually teamed up with Nintendo, that way they can get the look and feel just right.
Here’s a peek at what the boots look like in real life:
Even though they’re considered one-of-a-kind prototypes, these Mario boots are just as real and durable as the shoes you have in your closet. In fact, both Red Wing and Nintendo made it clear that materials both inside and outside are premium, reinforced, and made for ultra-comfort. Let’s just say that anyone who puts them on will feel how Mario is able to jump and run with such speed and grace.
So, where can you get your pair? Well…you can’t. As of right now, these are strictly a one-off pair of boots that are NOT for sale. In fact, the only way to get a glimpse at them up close is through the glass of Nintendo’s official store in New York City. So next time you’re in Manhattan, head over to 10 Rockefeller Plaza and check out the Mario shoes on display in the front window. They’ll be there all through the month of April.
Red Wing hasn’t said anything about these boots being made available or for sale, but we’re still clinging to hope that they will eventually make their way into shoe retailers on a grand scale. When/if that happens, you can be sure that we will be one of the first in line.
