Whatnot has chosen an opponent for Post Malone

We promised to keep you updated on this story after it set fire to the internet last week. And what a week it’s been since then! In case you’ve been under a rock, Whatnot and Post Malone have teamed up to put on a special MTG event that has a $100K reward for one lucky player who defeats Post Malone in a “mana y mana” match. On August 4th, Whatnot held a drawing via their app to determine which lucky entry would be heading to L.A. to face Posty on August 11th. Shortly after going live, Whatnot and the entire gaming community had a brief scare.

“You guys broke the app! Due to overwhelming interest, we'll be rescheduling the Post Malone: Mana y Mana drawing for a future date. Stay tuned for more info.”

That’s the message that Whatnot sent out on Twitter just 35 minutes after the stream aired. As you can imagine, this announcement made everyone’s heart skip a beat, and even had some thinking that the whole event would be scrubbed. The fact that Whatnot couldn’t handle the sheer volume certainly wasn’t an encouraging sign. But, less than 24 hours later, they sent out another tweet that re-lit the fire. It read: WE ARE BACK!

That night, at the same time, the Whatnot stream went live and collected a massive list of names to be potential opponents for Post Malone’s MTG match. By Monday afternoon, Whatnot officially announced the lucky winner of the drawing to be r6_kyle (or simply, Kyle). As we speak, Kyle is training with MTG champion, Reid Duke, who Whatnot called upon to help their winner prepare for the big match with Post Malone. We’re not sure how familiar Kyle is with MTG, but if they know the basics, and Reid gives them the right pointers, they stand a good chance of taking home that $100,000 prize.

Remember, the match will stream live on the Whatnot app tomorrow (August 11th) at 9 pm ET / 6 pm PT. All we have to do now is hope that there won’t be any more technical difficulties. Fingers crossed!

Pokémon TCG: Trick or Trade BOOster Bundle is coming soon!

Even though we’re still a couple of months away from our favorite time of year, Halloween, Pokémon TCG has announced that a new Halloween-theme bundle will be available in September. They’re calling it the Trick or Trade BOOster Bundle, and it sounds like it’s going to have some ‘scary-good’ stuff inside.

Pokémon Trick or Trade BOOster Bundle

For starters, Pokémon has let it be known that the Trick or Trade BOOster Bundle includes

40 mini booster packs. Each pack will come with three reprint cards that will feature spooky Halloween art of Pokémon like Mimikyu, Mewtwo, and more. These cards will also have a special Pikachu pumpkin (Jack -O- Lantern) stamped on them as well.

Pokémon’s plan is to have players use these bundles as party favors and treats during Halloween festivities, which is actually a cool way to market the game to younger trainers who have yet to walk down the Poké-path. So, instead of candy, you might be seeing a few of these BOOsters pop up in your goodie bag this year.

On top of these bundles, there’s also talk of more Halloween gear, activities, and festivities coming from Pokémon next month. So, we’re going to be ‘creepin’ our eyes on their website and social media for more updates as we get closer to September. Who knows what other surprises may be lurking around the corner.
